<p>Come on, now! When was the last time you had a PB&amp;J on nice junky white bread! You know, if you feed your cravings with structure, and eat what you LOVE, you don&#8217;t have to cheat and feel bad about yourself. There is plenty of time for healthy foods too. And yes, you will still lose weight. I didn&#8217;t lose weight until I started eating the foods I love&#8230; with structure! Planned out meals, snacks, enjoyed and then walked away from. Try it! It&#8217;s the diet of 2013!!!!</p>

<p>Ok, so I didn&#8217;t make it up. But when was the last time you had a toasted bagel with melting butter for lunch? Haven&#8217;t your lunches been everything BUT the bagel? Have you leaned to live your life without bread? Great, if it works for you. But if it doesn&#8217;t, and you end up cheating or bingeing on carbs, this recipe is for you! It&#8217;s what I had today. Here goes:</p>
<p>1. Toast the bagel<br />
2. Smear some Brummels on it. (That&#8217;s a &#8220;Margarine&#8221; made from yogurt and it&#8217;s delish!)<br />
3. Option to top it with orange marmalade or preserves<br />
4. EAT IT!<br />
5. Have some fruit or protein with it because believe it or not, just a bagel isn&#8217;t enough for lunch<br />
6. Pop an Adora Calcium Disc (available at Whole Foods)) for a dark chocolate ending!</p>
<p>And plan on a dinner full of protein and veggies since you&#8217;ve had your carbs for the day.</p>

I&#8217;d promise not to eat the good stuff, knowing once I started I wouldn&#8217;t be able to stop. I would make it all the way to the end of the day at the office, or the end of the party, and suddenly the wall came down and I was devouring picked over scraps. Then I&#8217;d go  home, since I&#8217;d already blown it, and eat everything in sight. If this sounds familiar, there IS a way through it this year. You get to eat holiday food without weight gain. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I hear many people obsessing about what their kids are eating and if they&#8217;re getting enough exercise. Moms go on and on about their kids&#8217; meals and food habits; they&#8217;re gathering recipes and tips about food, food, food. Coming from a place of love and concern, they&#8217;re watchful of their kids&#8217; health and they don&#8217;t want them gaining weight or getting too thin. What amazes me is that there isn&#8217;t quite as much discussion about what their kids are feeling and what&#8217;s going on in their lives. And frankly, this is where the kids get abandoned.</p>
<p>If adults are emotional eaters, so are our children. Are we teaching them about that? Are we only talking about what they eat and not talking about when and why? The point is, food follows feelings and we need to teach our children the triggers. And the best way to do that is to learn it ourselves and share that information with them.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>About a week ago, <a href="http://www.authornancygoodman.com/i-will-be-bingeing-aug-27th-heres-why-and-how-ill-avoid-gaining-weight/">I posted that Aug 27th I would have a binge</a>. I said that because I am so PRACTICED at figuring out my feelings and even anticipating them, that I knew this day could bring one on. Why? Two things, I wrote. One was that I had a black tie wedding to go to last night and I would have been eating lightly during the week to look my best in the dress. So today would be my day to REALLY let go! Secondly, and far more important, this is the 21st anniversary of the day my one day old baby was given a miraculous prognosis. It followed the one he had received the day he was born when we were told he might not make it. So wait. These are both happy events!</p>
<p><strong>WHY WOULD I BINGE FROM BEING HAPPY?</strong></p>
<p>Emotions hit us and they range from ecstatic to tragic. Even if the news is good, maybe there&#8217;s fear behind it. Or old pain. Either way, they are so full of energy, both positive and negative, that in that moment or day they strike our system looks for some activity to either distract us or buffer it. It&#8217;s simply TOO MUCH. Food is a place to put the energy. It&#8217;s so fricking immediate and easy. It feels and tastes so good. And seemingly, there is no backlash of disappointment or disapproval since it&#8217;s not a person we&#8217;re going to with an expectation that says, &#8220;Make me feel better now!&#8221; So we can sit alone with the feeling and our food companion silently supports us. But does it?</p>
<p>When you turn to food or any obsessive behavior to avoid feeling the truth, whatever that truth is, you&#8217;re not going for support or help. You&#8217;re going for a baseball bat that hits you over the head with weight gain and a blow to your self esteem. You&#8217;ll feel worse than you did in the first place. BUT, when you take the energy from that OVERWHELMING moment, recognize that you&#8217;re kind of at war here and you need to arm yourself with healthy battle options, you&#8217;re inviting a connection of love and potential. And believe it or not, this IS the diet!</p>
<p>If you call a friend or family member and talk about it, you&#8217;ve connected. You&#8217;ve shared, hopefully laughed, and built more closeness with that person. When you take that energy to a workout, you&#8217;ve just strengthened your body and you will feel AMAZING and proud. When you take that energy to a goal or project, you&#8217;re one step closer to completion and that is a form of success. If you recycle that energy to passion, that is passion beyond anything you&#8217;ve had before. Or, if you take that energy and decide to calm it down by writing in a journal or taking a walk, or watching an old movie (without food!) you&#8217;re allowing yourself to be quiet and process; two things we need to do often because it&#8217;s where we have ALL control.</p>
<p>So today, I&#8217;m having a quiet day. I&#8217;m sharing it with the people I&#8217;m close to. It is within my control and I&#8217;m sharing it with you. And Mr. Big Bad Binge isn&#8217;t invited. I&#8217;m hoping that next time you have one of those moments where you feel a binge coming on, you&#8217;ll think about the options and celebrate this fact:</p>
